WARM SPRINGS, Ore. (KTVZ) – A brush fire Monday afternoon behind the old Warm Springs Mill and Warm Springs Composites was fanned by high winds and burned about 200 acres before it was contained by Warm Springs and other firefighting agencies.

Warm Springs Fire and Safety was dispatched shortly after 3 p.m. to the reported 5-10 acre fire and arrived to find it covering 15 to 20 acres, moving quickly to the southeast, Public Information Officer and Lieutenant Garrett Web.

Due to the fire’s location and winds in the area, they were unable to make a quick stop to what was named the Rocky Point Fire, though they were able to quickly stop several spot fires, Webb said.

Bureau of Indian Affairs resources will remain in the area overnight and conduct more mop-up in coming days, he said.

Crews also worked with Jefferson County Fire & EMS and the sheriff’s office, BLM and other regional ground and air resources.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, Webb said.
