ARLINGTON, V.A. — Lucas Johansen is back up with the Washington Capitals, as he’s been summoned up to the big club and recalled from the AHL’s Hershey Bears in order to fill the void of injured defenseman Rasmus Sandin.

Sandin will miss at least the next two games after being hurt on Sunday against the Ottawa Senators, when he was hit along the boards by Parker Kelly. It is unclear if Sandin will be back before the end of the regular season.

Johansen initially made the opening night roster in October before being waived and reassigned to Hershey.

In six NHL games this season, the 26-year-old has one assist. In 22 AHL games with Hershey, he’s posted two goals and 10 assists while also navigating some injury issues.

Johansen gives the Capitals another left-handed option on defense. Vincent Iorio is also available and remains up with Washington, but Johansen brings a bit more experience and familiarity with Carbery’s systems.
