ARLINGTON, V.A. — As he signed with the Washington Capitals for six more years, Matt Roy found himself excited by the new group that D.C. brought together but was also excited for the opportunity to reunite with teammate Pierre-Luc Dubois.

Dubois, who was acquired in a trade for Darcy Kuemper, played with Roy this past season with the Los Angeles Kings. Both will get a new start with the Capitals, and Roy is looking forward to reuniting with the 26-year-old.

“I’m really excited. He’s a really great guy and he’s a really great player," Roy said.

Dubois comes to D.C. with a bit of a reputation, as this will be his fourth team in four years while there have been rumors and speculation from critics regarding his dynamic in the locker room.

However, Roy was able to shut down those murmurs with one answer, as he cited how much he thinks he'll benefit Washington going forward.

"I think he’s gonna really help this team and just off the ice and in the locker room, he’s a great guy and a great teammate," Roy said. "So I’m excited.”

Roy, 29, is in the long haul with Washington, who not only added Dubois but also brought in Jakob Chychrun, Logan Thompson, Brandon Duhaime and Taylor Raddysh in a roster overhaul.

Him signing a six-year contract with Dubois also on board for the next seven years in the District is a promising sign that the outside noise is just that: noise at the best.
