Nationals release veteran outfielder, should Braves make a move for depth?

The Washington Nationals announced on social media that they have requested unconditional release waivers on Eddie Rosario, prompting fans of the Atlanta Braves to demand that they sign the veteran left fielder. But is this a good idea?

There's no doubt that Rosario is an important part of Braves history, helping the club win the 2021 World Series and earning the NLCS MVP. However, these accolades do not reflect Rosario's recent performances.

In 67 games for the Nationals, Rosario slashed for .183/.226/.329. This is a major drop-off from his time with the Braves. Even in his worst season with Atlanta, Rosario batted .212/.259/.328 in 250 at-bats.

Still, this hasn't stopped fans and MLB insiders from weighing in on the matter. Braves reporter Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game seemed against picking up Rosario. "The Braves could add Eddie Rosario if they so choose, but that move will have next to no impact on addressing the actual needs and pursuing more suitable OF and offensive upgrades."

MLB.com's Mark Bowman seemed more in favor of Rosario but still wasn't all-in on the move. "Just an idea: The Braves could audition Rosario for a couple of weeks before deciding they still need before the July 30 Trade Deadline."

While it would be great for Rosario to come home to Atlanta, this may not be the best time to bring him back. There are plenty of other players on the market that could better fill the holes in the Braves' roster.
