    DC police: Man arrested for DUI after car hit by Amtrak train

    WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said it arrested a man for driving under the influence after his car was hit by an Amtrak train in Northeast on Thursday morning.

    Officers and first responders were called to the 3600 block of New York Avenue, NE at around 5:30 a.m. for an occupied passenger train striking a car that was unoccupied on train tracks.

    Police said that a man was allegedly driving next to the train track when his car got stuck on the track. It was later hit by the Amtrak train.

    The man told police he was following his navigation when the crash happened.

    In a police report, MPD said the man displayed signs of impairment. After completing a standardized sobriety test, he was arrested for a DUI.

    In a post on the X platform, DC Fire and EMS said the train did not derail and firefighters walked through the train to confirm all passengers were okay.

    There were no reported injuries.
