The NATO Summit taking place July 9-11 means road and sidewalk closures for many blocks around the Convention Center and near the White House — before and after the summit.

Why it matters: Residents will need to exercise patience, and plan ahead.

State of play: Around the Convention Center emergency no-parking will be in effect from Saturday at 6am until July 12 at 6pm.

    • From July 8-11, a large screening perimeter will require drivers and pedestrians to pass through checkpoints, such as on Q Street between 11th and 7th Streets and at H and 10th Streets.
    • At the same time, a tighter pedestrian perimeter will only permit access to credential summit-goers.
    • The Mt. Vernon Sq-7th St Convention Center Metro station will be closed.

The Mellon Auditorium will host summit-goers on July 9. It will have a pedestrian perimeter and vehicle screening area around Pennsylvania and Constitution avenues.

    • ⛔ The Federal Triangle Metro station will be closed that day.

Enhanced security and other measures around the White House will happen on the afternoon and evening of July 10, including emergency no-parking and road closures.

The fine print: Trash pickup, mail and package services inside the restricted perimeters will shift to the overnight and early morning hours.

    • Rideshare, taxi and food delivery will be allowed in the vehicle screening perimeter.

People can text NATODC to 888-777 to receive updates from D.C. and federal agencies.
