    DC police now investigating 2021 death as homicide

    WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — D.C. police said Monday that they would be investigating a man’s 2021 death as a homicide.

    Officers with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to the unit block of Quincy Place, NE on the evening of Oct. 18, 2021, for a person who was reported unconscious.

    Police found 26-year-old Zachary Freeling, who had been shot, inside of a home. DC Fire and EMS responded as well and determined that Freeling was dead.

    Responders transported his body to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy, but Freeling’s cause of death was not determined until June 20, 2024, when officials told MPD that the cause of death was ruled a homicide.
