Best Caesar salads and spinoffs in D.C.

Caesar salad is having a moment — actually a century of moments, as the Tijuana-born dish is celebrating its centennial and everyone's craving one.

Who makes the best is a hot topic in D.C. Our top five:

🍸 Perfect: All-Purpose (Shaw) ups the game with a special inspired by TikTok's " perfect meal ": Their delicious Caesar, fries, and "freezer martini" for $25 (available weekend brunch and Sunday nights).

🌯 Wrap: The Best Sandwich Place (Downtown) is the answer to that viral question thanks to a perfect chicken-to-lettuce ratio, no panini treatment (soggy lettuce, boo), and croutons. Always croutons.

🧄 Classic: Caruso's Grocery (Capitol Hill, North Bethesda) has Sinatra vibes and a divine roasted garlic Caesar showered in parm and cheesy croutons.

🐟 Caesar-ish: 2 Amys "vaguely Caesar" salad is deconstructed — in a non-annoying way — with jammy eggs, anchovy dressing, and perfect lil' crunchies.

🍕 Pizza: Boogey and Peel (Dupont Circle) makes the only thing better than a Caesar wrap: A cheesy Caesar pizza crowned with a tangy kale salad and breadcrumbs, plus optional Spanish anchovies (do it).

Fun fact: Legendary, late D.C. chef Michel Richard helped pioneer the new-wave-Caesar trend locally with his goat cheese Caesar with crunchy parm at Central in the early aughts (you can still order it today).

    • Partner chef David Deshaies, who learned from the texture master, has a fun Caesar on all of his menus, from a "dirty" Caesar with squid ink crumbles at Unconventional Diner to a wasabi pea Caesar at Love, Makoto .
