WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — Leead Briscoe lived in Las Vegas for many years but there’s a difference between the dry heat there and the humidity in the DMV.

“It’s a little bit unbearable,” she said.

Briscoe, who moved to Maryland a few weeks ago, has been putting up with heat wave that has gripped the DMV for days and there’s more to come.

“Different kind of heat. It’s much more humid here,” Briscoe said. “I’ve been moving into a house, so it’s really hard to be out in the heat moving. But, in the AC, it’s good.”

List: Cancellations, closures across DMV due to heat

It continues to be blazing hot in the region with temperatures topping 100 degrees as the heat continues to soar.

While less boaters and kayakers are out on the Potomac River, the heat hasn’t stopped people from spending time outside walking or riding their bikes.

Some people like David Van Duzer walked his dog regardless of the heat – something he said he does three times a day based on her needs.

“If I had a choice, I’d be home where it’s cool and so would she,” she said. “I’m just staying inside in the air conditioning and drinking lots of iced tea. D.C. and summer is a tough assignment.”

Lauren Ravury spent time walking across the Key Bridge from D.C. into Virginia to go shopping.

“I just kind of wanted to walk today, but it’s very hot,” she said.

Ravury just moved to the District from Illinois for the summer. Did she have any regrets walking nearly a mile over the bridge in the punishing sun?

“No. I have a bottle of water, so I’m good,” she said. “It’s a good walk, good exercise.”

Christinia Bergeaux of Texas, also walked across the Key Bridge from Virginia into D.C. so she and her children could see Georgetown.

The Texas heat is tough to deal, she said, as she and her family have seen the historic sites but Bergeaux was surprised by the heat in the nation’s capital.

“It’s humid where we are. And this is just heat,” she said. “I feel like the sun is right on top of me.”
