WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — D.C. police are investigating after a shooting in Southeast left two people dead, and two more hurt, including a toddler, on Thursday.
In a post on X, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said the shooting took place in the area of 22nd Street and Alabama Avenue, SE.

Police said that at about 11:20 a.m., they heard gunshots and drove to the shooting location.
Officers said two men died. A third man was also shot and was being treated for his injuries.
A fourth victim, a 2-year-old girl, was also shot. Police said she had non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers said the girl was leaving daycare for a morning walk with daycare workers and was hit by a bullet.
Officers are currently looking for a Blue Dodge, shown in the pictures below, in connection to the incident.

“Nothing’s going to change if people are not gonna change,” said Shaylah Parker, a nearby neighbor who stopped by the scene on her way home. “How can we expect different from other communities if we have problems within our own community?”
Other neighbors and elected officials who spoke with DC News Now say they’re fed up with the violence, too.
“Why do people feel like they can come in and shoot and get away? There’s a daycare there. There’s a daycare at the bottom of the hill,” said local Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner Joseph Johnson, questioning the city’s stance on crime. “The laws are flimsy. The people on the council should resign. The mayor and police chief should resign, too.”
DC News Now asked DC Police Chief Pamela Smith during a Thursday news conference about rising homicide numbers in the District as the city approaches the triple-digit mark this year.
“It doesn’t matter, one homicide is too many. I’m telling you we are sick and tired of this. We’re doing everything we can. We’re going to ask you again, if you know something, say something,” she responded.
