WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — DC Fire and EMS said a man allegedly set an apartment on fire in Southeast D.C. on Friday morning leaving four people displaced.

Crews said they were dispatched to the 2100 block of Suitland Terrace for a working fire just before 9 a.m. on July 26.

First responders said the fire was confined to the first-floor apartment and was under control.

DC Fire and EMS confirmed it was arson and this was the second fire at the apartment over the last 24 hours.

One resident said she and her two children barely escaped Thursday morning and was thankfully not home on Friday.

“We don’t really have nowhere stable to stay. We were waiting it out. Yesterday I had to barricade myself in the house. All last night I’m on edge. I would not go to sleep,” said Charineen Stevenson. “If I would’ve made the decision to stay there, we would have been in there and we could’ve been not here.”

    There were no reported injuries.

Fire officials said four people were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Anyone with information can call the anonymous arson hotline at 202-673-ARSON.
