Commanders' Daron Payne believes the defense is going to be much more fun this year

Washington Commanders ' defensive lineman Daron Payne was interviewed today about the team, and he shared that he felt that defense this year will be much better and more fun than last year.

“I feel like for the last seven years I’ve just been playing non-stop, like, a good high percentage of those reps,” said Payne. “It’s going to be fun to come out for a bit, catch a breather, and get back in and give it my all.”

Last season, the Commanders’ defense was supposed to be much better than the offense and the backbone of the team. In the end, the defense proved to be even worse than the offense, coming last in passing and scoring defense, yards allowed, and being fifth from last in rushing defense.

In this offseason the Commanders have reorganized their defense with the NFL draft, free agency, and a new defensive coordinator. The lineup is deep, and Payne believes that will make an impact for the starters. “As a D-lineman when you're playing a lot of snaps in a row, it takes a toll on you...now we can play fresh and that will help us at the end of games.”

Hopefully, Payne’s beliefs pan out, and the Commanders’ defense becomes the backbone of the franchise once again.
