Washington Commanders List Their Starting Quarterback Ahead Of Preseason Opener

The Washington Commanders went into training camp with the number two overall pick Jayden Daniels , Marcus Mariota , Sam Hartman , and Jeff Driskel and have come to a somewhat obvious conclusion on who the starting quarterback will be ahead of their preseason opener Saturday against the New York Jets .

The Commanders have named Daniels the starter, which was expected; however, with a guy like Mariota on the roster with plenty of experience, if they felt Daniels wasn't ready, he wouldn't be a bad second option to step in until he is.

At LSU, Daniels won the Heisman, having one of the greatest collegiate seasons from a statistical standpoint we have ever seen. Completing 72.2 percent of his passes for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns, and adding over 1,000 yards on the ground for another ten scores.

Washington is coming off a 4-13 season and added some much-needed reinforcements, hiring new head coach Dan Quinn, running back Austin Ekeler , and linebacker Bobby Wagner . But they still have a lot of work to do if they want to compete in the NFC East.
