Local track and field athletes prepare to compete at the Olympics
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Olympics opening ceremony begins Friday and 14 past and present Huskers have earned a spot at the Paris games, each representing a number of different countries. Six of those athletes are competing in track and field and spent countless hours training in Nebraska, preparing to make their name known on the biggest stage in the world.
Former UNK women's hoops star enters RMAC Hall of Fame
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A former Nebraska-Kearney athlete is being honored for her standout career. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference inducted Jennifer Warner Ramsey into the RMAC Hall of Fame earlier this month. Warner Ramsey played basketball for UNK from 1995-97 and won conference player of the year twice. The transfer from Iowa State guided the Lopers to a 54-8 record over two seasons and to a pair of wins in the NCAA Division ll tournament.

Nebraska’s Ron Brown to become on-field assistant coach
The Nebraska Cornhuskers announced another change to their coaching staff on Wednesday afternoon. Director of Player Support and Outreach Ron Brown will now coach fullbacks and returners. A recent change to NCAA rules no longer limits the number of coaches who can be employed in an on-field role. Previously, only the head coach and ten assistants were allowed to interact with student-athletes in ‘technical or tactical instruction.’ “The Division I Council on Tuesday approved a rule change… to permit any staff member to provide technical and tactical instruction to student-athletes… during practice and competition.” Brown has a long association with Nebraska football, having coached for the Huskers for 24 years. He served as an assistant from 1987-2003 and again from 2008-14. The Husker coach has coached wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs during his time at Nebraska. He will transition away from his role as Nebraska’s director of player support and outreach into his new on-field role.
