Swimming is banned at Spruce Run Recreation Area in Hunterdon County this summer due to harmful algal blooms that can cause health problems, state officials said Thursday. Harmful algal blooms, known as HABs, are a “growing global problem” and have been detected in New Jersey lakes this year at various levels, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The Washington Business Improvement District recently welcomed three new members to its Board of Directors. Selected to fill three open slots were Christopher Caruso, owner of Dank Poet Dispensary, Kathy Halpin, resident property owner., and Nicole Kries, owner of the Cellar Door. Halpin isn’t exactly new to the board; she served on the board previously for several years and had and has continued to be a very active volunteer with the organization even while not on the board. Caruso and Kries both opened their businesses in the Borough within the past year and have been committed to working with the WBID previously and are both excited to bring new ideas and initiatives to the business community.

US.- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) has rescheduled a hearing to take public comment on the renewal of the Category 2 Slot Machine Operator Licence for Wind Creek Bethlehem casino, Northampton County. It will be held at the Bethlehem City Hall on July 31. A severe storm which knocked out electricity at Bethlehem City Hall forced the cancellation of the previously scheduled hearing on June 26.
