Severe weather delays start of Sidney demolition derby
SIDNEY - Demolition derby fans were rushed for cover as a severe warned storm approached the Cheyenne County Fairgrounds on Saturday evening. Gusty winds, heavy rain and cloud to ground lightning delayed the start of the Rumble on the Rails Demolition Derby. Officials tell News Channel Nebraska they're aiming for a start time of 8 p.m., depending on the weather. If there's a lightning strike within five miles of the fairgrounds, it would delay the derby another 30 minutes.

A car crash sent one person to the hospital with critical injuries early Saturday morning. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Hwy 275 near Ida Street in Valley, Nebraska. Medics from the Omaha Fire Department rushed the injured person to the hospital just before 4:00 a.m.
