KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Not a single relay record at Fulton High School, boys or girls, had been broken in over a decade.

This year, Maiya Moor, Damiyah Swanson, Zion Thompson and Tre’mija Davenport broke two.

“We don’t know how to feel but we happy,” said Swanson.

Together the four set a time of 50.16 in the 4×100 and 1:46.53 in the 4×200, records that had been held since 2013 and 2012.

“It means a lot and it pushes me to keep going,” said Davenport.

The makeup of the relay team fluctuated throughout the season until the baton found the hands of Moor, Swanson, Thompson and Davenport.

“Their work ethic all started meshing at the same time. They all started joking around each other at the same time, and they all just started gelling and the handoffs started going, and we started running the right times at the right time,” said Fulton track & field head coach Dom Williams.

It’s the work ethic that made all the difference in making the relay’s potential takeoff.

“Holding each other accountable and not letting bad days dictate who we are as a team and as an individual,” Moor said.

“If they miss a rep, they will make it up on the backend of practice, or they remind each other ‘You need to run that 40, you need to run that 60.’ They just have integrity with themselves, as well,” said Williams.

They took the season, “Just knowing what we were working towards, we all had to get on that same page and I think we have,” Moor said.

The prep, “You gotta trust yourself,” said Thompson.

And the work, seriously, “Have no doubt just keep trying even if you can’t,” Swanson said.

Doing so has not only run them into the Falcon record books but into Fulton history. The four are the first girls to represent the Falcons at the state since 2004.
