KNOXVILLE, Tenn. ( WATE ) — The Knoxville Police Department and the University of Tennessee Police Department worked together overnight Friday to bring a 21-year-old suspect into custody after what KPD described as “a brief crime spree.”

According to a news release from KPD, at around 2:15 a.m. on Friday, August 23, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the parking lot behind the Half Barrel at 1831 Cumberland Avenue .

“It was reported that Shuman was told to leave the bar and threatened to kill an employee,” KPD stated. “Shuman left the scene in a white Dodge Challenger, fired a gunshot in an unknown direction and speed away from the parking lot, striking two parked vehicles in the process.”

KPD added that a 21-year-old woman in the car said she wanted to get out, but Shuman refused to let her.

Soon after, Shuman’s car was reportedly speeding down 17th Street in the direction of Western Avenue and was spotted by a UT Police Department officer.

“The responding UTPD officer then found Shuman’s car crashed into another vehicle as well as a retaining wall,” KPD stated. “Shuman ran from the scene of that crash and then reportedly forced his way into a home in the 700 block of Alfredda Delaney Street. Three people were inside the home at the time of that incident. Shuman took a phone from the home and then ran out the back door.”
