LENOIR CITY, Tenn. (WATE) — Vandalism at Lenoir City High School’s football stadium is under investigation according to District Attorney General Russell Johnson.

A reward of $250 is being offered by Mayor Tony Aikens and the City of Lenoir City for information leading to the “arrest and conviction of those persons responsible” for the vandalism. Johnson shared that the vandalism was discovered Thursday morning ahead of the Battle of the Bridge contest between the Loudon Redskins and the Lenoir City Panthers.

Lenoir City Police Chief Don White said four to five cameras were damaged along with two scoreboards and some new bleachers in the baseball stadium. He said there was an estimated $20,000 in damages. Johnson added that the vandalism was likely done by high school students.

“We both understand the spirit of the rivalry and the competition engendered by the battle of the bridge. We realize that kids will be kids. But what has happened here today is in bad taste and exceeds the standard for this rivalry and competitive spirit,” reads a statement from Aikens and Johnson.

They added that this “type of activity will not be tolerated, and will be prosecuted.”
