A cello player from Madison Country Day School will perform in the final round of the Madison Symphony Orchestra’s Bolz Young Artist Competition next week, PBS Wisconsin has announced.

Katarina Kenney, a freshman at Madison Country Day School in Westport, is among four students chosen to perform in the Wisconsin Young Artists Compete: The Final Forte. It will be broadcast on PBS at 7 p.m. March 6 and again at 2 p.m. March 8 and March 9.

The concert will be presented at the Overture for the Arts in Madison, hosted by Lori Skelton, host of Wisconsin Public Radio’s Afternoon Classics and Wisconsin Classical, and Clint Walz, director individual giving at PBS Wisconsin.

Young musicians compete for scholarship in the competition and an opportunity to perform as soloists with the Madison Symphony Chamber Orchestra at Overture Hall. The winner receives a $2,000 scholarship and other awards.

Wisconsin Public Radio NPR News and Music Network will air the performance at 7 p.m. Wednesday March 8.

Joining Kenny will be: marimbist Elliot Lesperance, a junior at Oregon High School; pianist André Peck, a freshman and Logan High School; and violinist Jane Story, a junior at Academy of Excellence.
