    July 10, 1924

    The July 4 celebration was a big success. The sum of approximately $1,500 was raised. Henry Hurst was the winner of the car.

    The Waunakee baseball team lost an 11-inning thriller to Middleton Sunday by a score of 5-4.

    Mrs. John Schoreder, 69, died at her home in this village on Saturday, July 5, after a long illness.

    Dr. O.A. Otteson, formerly located in Poynette, has rented the James T. Taylor home and will be located in Waunakee.

    Little Joella Kopp celebrated her 3rd birthday anniversary on Friday by entertaining friends.

    In a special advertisement, we notice that P.J. Uebersetzig is selling hams for 13 cents per pound.

    Miss Edna Schunk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schunk, has been selected as a member of the All-State Band.

    The Waunakee Sportsmen’s Club has received 355 day-old pheasant chicks from the Game Farm at Poynette.

    Ray Lamboley is leading in hitting in the Home Talent League with 16 hits in 25 times at bat for a percentage of .640.

    Mrs. Henry Reis Sr., who recently underwent an operation at St. Mary’s Hospital returned home on Monday.

    The thermometer registered a high of 98 degrees Monday, and it was very humid, making it an uncomfortable day.

    Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Becker announce the birth of a son at Lodi Nursing Home on Tuesday, June 28.

    Miss Leona Speth and James J. Virnig were united in marriage in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church here on Tuesday, June 28.

    Mr. and Mrs. Ben Laufenberg announce the birth of a daughter at St .Mary’s Hospital on June 29.

    The Civic Club baseball team is in first place by virtue of a 15-1 win over Roxbury on Sunday.

    Mr. and Mrs. Foster Hineline, Madison, announce the birth of a son on June 27 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

    July 8, 1954

    Miss Doris Rauls and Marcus Marx were united in marriage at St. Olaf’s Church, DeForest, Tuesday of last week.

    Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nolan are the proud parents of a daughter born at Madison General Hospital on July 3.

    Dr. Lloyd Otteson passed the state exam for veterinarians and has a license to practice in Wisconsin.

    Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Ziegler are rejoicing over the arrival of a son on Sunday, July 4, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

    Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Adler announce the birth of a daughter on July 3 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

    July 2, 1964

    Peter Brausen, 71, Madison, well-known baseball player, died Thursday, June 25, in a Madison hospital after a brief illness.

    The Waunakee girls’ softball team blasted Lodi 42-8 on June 24. This is their third win and puts them in a tie for first place in the Scenic Six League.

    Peter Townsend, Waunakee, was the lucky winner of the Pepsi-Cola five-minute shopping spree. All of the merchandise he could carry off the shelves in five minutes was his to take him. He managed to take more than $500 in groceries from Miller’s Foodliner shelves.

    July 11, 1974

    Monday evening, July 1, about 10:30, Rich Zeitlan was startled when a big oak next to his home came crashing against his roof in a heavy thunderstorm.

    The third annual Koch family reunion was held at the Waunakee Park on Saturday, June 30.

    A surprise baby shower for Mrs. Howard Schwab was held Wednesday, noon, at the Innkeeper of Waunakee.

    June 28, 1984

    Herman E. Bergman, Waunakee, age 72, died suddenly on June 20.

    Dr. Mark R. Pustaver will join his father, Dr. Frank R. Pustaver, in the practice of chiropractic at 138 W. Main St.

    A farewell for Sister Lorraine Pfannestiel, principal of St. John’s School, was held Sunday. She will leave in August to assume her new assignment in Indiana.

    Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kalscheur, Dane, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at the Hofbrau Haus Sunday, July 6.

    The Waunakee Home Talent baseball team swept past Sauk Prairie 4-2 last Saturday and then shelled Cross Plains 17-8 in a game played Sunday.

    June 16, 1994

    Waunakee’s plan to add 751 acres to the Urban Service Area has raised both the eyebrows and tempers of Westport town board members.

    The Waunakee school board voted Monday to adopt a budget for the 1994-95 school year. The budget calls for total revenues of $13,460,609.

    Bill Forseth has adopted three wild horses through the Bureau of Land Management’s wild horse adoption program.

    Sister Haroldine Acker will celebrate their golden jubilee as a School Sister of St. Francis on Sunday, June 26.

    Warrior softball players receiving awards at the end of the season are Joan Ripp, Jackie Ripp, Jenny Scheuerell, Holly Endres and Jackie Dresen.

    Slated for demolition this summer, the Gilleses’ home on Hwy. Q is for sale for just $1. But whoever buys it will be responsible for moving it from the site where the Waunakee school district’s new athletic fields are planned.

    Brian Liegel and Matt Palmer received the American Legion Awards from Richard Breitenfeld during the Recognition Day at Waunakee High School on June 8.

    Waunakee officials have agreed to pay for a portion of a bike path from Mary Lake Road to Hwy. M.

    Family, students and staff members at Prairie Elementary School planted a red maple tree in front in memory of Tonya Stone, a health assistant, who died this past winter.
