Both the Associated Press and New York Times have projected that Mosinee Mayor Brent Jacobson will move on to the general election in November after winning Tuesday’s partisan primary over Cory Sillars.

Jacobson and Sillars are both Republican candidates. At press time, Jacobson had collected roughly 75 percent of the votes in the race for Wisconsin’s 87th Assembly District.

The redrawn district, currently represented by retiring Republican James Edming, encompasses a range of metro communities including Schofield, Mosinee, Rib Mountain, Hatley, Kronenwetter and Rothschild. Wittenberg, Birnamwood, Iola, Rigerton and Rosholt are also among the communities represented by the 87th moving forward.

Jacobson will now take on Democrat William Switalla, who ran unopposed in the primary. Switalla is board president for the vllage of Wittenberg and represents Dist. 24 on the Shawano County Board.

In addition to his role as Mosinee mayor, Jacobson sits on the Marathon County Board of Supervisors. He is an attorney who earned his law degree at West Virginia University.
