Cleveland-Cliffs to open plant in West Virginia
Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. has announced plans to repurpose an idled facility in Weirton, W.V., to establish a new electrical distribution transformer production plant. The $150 million project will equip the facility to produce three-phase distribution transformers used in electric power distribution systems. The investment will result in re-employment opportunities for 600 workers from the indefinitely idled tinplate mill. The plant is expected to come online in the first half of 2026.
