Transit Drive-In set to finish a successful summer

Lockport, N.Y. (WBEN) - The summer is winding down, and while the Transit Drive-In won't have weeknight movies playing after this week, the season will continue with weekend showings in the fall.

General manager Jordan Clement says this was a successful summer.

"I think that movies are definitely back. I think that people are coming out to the theaters and going to the cinemas, which is great," said Clement, who adds the COVID backlog is going away, paving the way for new content.

The top two movies at Transit Drive-In were "Inside Out 2" and "Deadpool and Wolverine," which Clement says brought in about 2,500 cars on their respective opening weekends.

While this week marks the end of weeknight showings for the season, Clement is optimistic for the fall schedule.

"There's some really great movies coming out in September, like 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice', 'Smile 2', 'Transformers One' is released in Sept. 20, and then a few titles in October, like 'Joker 2,'" Clement said with WBEN.

Clement anticipates good crowds this fall.

"Fall is typically a really good time to come out to the drive in. It's nice and cool. You don't have to worry about sweating. You don't have to worry about freezing. It's definitely a beneficial climate to have your trunk open and be outside at night," he said.

During Sunday afternoons this summer, Clement says the drive-in hosted an artisan market for the first time.

"Shoppers were very excited about that. Our vendors have been very satisfied with the turnout," Clement added.

The fall season will last as long as the weather holds out.
