West Virginia girl looking to become youngest tattoo artist

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. (WOWK) — A 10-year-old girl from West Virginia has the chance to be in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest tattoo artist.

Lily Wilcox—who wants to be an art teacher and tattoo artist when she grows up—is the daughter of Kate and Mike Wilcox, the owners of Moncove Tattoo in the town of Union in Monroe County.

She said her tattooing journey started with her brother.

“I asked my oldest brother, Nate, if I could give him a tattoo just to be funny and in a joking way, but he actually agreed to it, so the next day, I gave him a tattoo,” Lily said. “We posted it on Facebook and it exploded.”

Once word got out that they had a young tattoo artist, people have been impressed and curious to see, and want Lily to succeed in her endeavors.

“They’ve been very supportive,” Kate Wilcox said. “She’s got a lot of people that have been longtime clients wanting her to give them tattoos.”

In just a couple of weeks, Lily will be tattooing on the Summersville Arena & Conference Center’s main stage as she is trying to be in the Guinness Book of World Records, and she has been practicing getting ready for the day.

“Sometimes at school when we’re doing a lesson—but I’ll still be listening—when we’re doing our lesson, I’ll be trying my straight lines and shading, so I can work my way up to using the shader,” Lily Wilcox said.

According to the venue, Lily will be on the stage at noon on Saturday, Oct. 12.
