SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Some kids and adults who did not have a bicycle now do thanks to a non-profit bicycle club.

The Leadership Lackawanna Class of 2024’s Anthracite Bicycle Coalition Project Team gave away recycled bikes Sunday at the Connell Park Cycle Kitchen in South Scranton.

Besides getting a free bike, people there got to learn how to service it if something goes wrong.

An obstacle course was also set up for kids to test out their new rides.

The man in charge of this says he does it for the kids.

“I am a very rich man when it comes to seeing these children walk away with a smile on their face. I well up in tears pretty much every time when I leave here. The kids just, it just does it for you. It just does it for you,” said Anthracite Bicycle Coalition President Gene Mcdonough.

This was the first of many events the Anthracite Bicycle Coalition plans on hosting throughout the year.
