SHELBYVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Vehicle and pedestrian traffic at the main dam of Lake Shelbyville is going to be limited for the next two weeks due to maintenance on the dam.

Officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said a new electric feeder line is being installed, and closing the road over the dam is necessary to provide safety for both workers and the public. The road will close on Monday, April 15 and will remain closed until Friday, April 19.

The dam will reopen for weekend traffic before closing again on Monday, April 22. The second closure will last until Friday, April 26.

Bridge replacement project begins in Monticello

Access to the Dam West Overlook will be maintained throughout the closures, officials said.

Officials added that they do recognize the impact of road closures to the public and apologized for any inconvenience they may cause. People wanting additional information can contact the Lake Shelbyville Project Office at 217-774-3951.
