DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Danville High School students are doing their part to polish up “Friendly Town” at Lincoln Park.

Students from the school’s Geometry and Construction class, called GeoCON, built a mini-school in the tiny town. It’s part of an overall refresh of the training grounds, which were first established in 1970.

Friendly Town is a unique experience for children in Danville, allowing kids to kart around the miniaturized tracks and buildings that make up the patch off Grant Street. It serves as a fun way to teach young ones about traffic safety.

But after more than 50 years, Danville Police Chief Chris Yates figured it was time for a touch-up. Community members adopted 13 areas in Friendly Town to paint and start gardens in — or in GeoCON’s case, build a “Friendly School.”
