DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The first day back at school will be coming with an extra bit of style, thanks to a Danville community church.

As part of their annual giveaway, Mosaic City Church had local barbers at the Palmer Arena to give kids of all ages free haircuts.

The church was also handing out everyday items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, laundry detergent and bibles.

Pastor Lestan Hoskins said parents can be juggling a number of things when it comes time to go back to school, and giving out these items are their way of giving back.

“That’s what we’re here for,” Hoskins said. “So, we want to help meet needs. We want to give people hope. We want to put smiles on parents’ faces. I had a parent say to me today, ‘Thank you so much, because you know what? I was stressing and now I’m able to get my child a haircut.’ And that’s what we want to do as a church. We want people to know that the church cares about them.”
