Anniston, AL – Get ready for a sizzling showdown at The Kress on 1108 Noble Street as the Calhoun County Blue Line Foundation presents the Smoke Eaters Chili Challenge on July 13, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This exciting event serves as a fundraiser for the Weaver Fire Department, bringing together the community for a fun-filled afternoon of live music, delicious chili, and friendly competition.

Before the chili challenge kicks off, join the pregame celebration at Sinclair Social on July 12th, featuring a free touch-a-truck event from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM and live music from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM. A portion of the proceeds from this event will also benefit the Weaver Fire Department, setting the stage for a weekend of community support and appreciation.

Local fire and police departments from Calhoun County, alongside members of the public, will vie for the title of best chili. Participants can enter their chili into the competition for a chance to win fantastic prizes: 1st place receives $500 in cash and prizes, 2nd place $250, 3rd place $100, and there’s a $100 prize for Crowd Favorite. The judging will be conducted as a blind tasting by esteemed panelists, including Piedmont Police Chief Nathan Johnson, Weaver City Councilman Tim McRae (a retired fireman), and Senator Keith Kelley.

“We’re excited to host this event that brings together our community in support of the Weaver Fire Department,” said a spokesperson from the Calhoun County Blue Line Foundation. “It’s not just about chili; it’s about showing our appreciation for our local heroes and raising funds for critical resources.”

In addition to chili tasting, attendees can enjoy live music by Delta Time and soak in the vibrant atmosphere at The Kress. Admission to sample all the chili is $10 per person, ensuring everyone can join in the fun and support a great cause. Participants can also register to enter their chili by visiting www.ccblueline.org . The deadline to enter your chili is Monday, July 7th.

The Calhoun County Blue Line Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit independent of any law enforcement agency, focuses on enhancing law enforcement agencies’ capabilities within Calhoun County. Funds raised from events like the Smoke Eaters Chili Challenge will go towards supporting essential resources and promoting excellence in community-based first responder efforts.

Mark your calendars for July 13th and come out to The Kress for an afternoon of chili, music, and community spirit, all in support of the Weaver Fire Department. It’s sure to be a hot event you won’t want to miss!
