HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A contracted jail nurse has been arrested following an investigation into alleged medication stealing.

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says on August 7, a licensed nurse, working at the Vanderburgh County Jail, employed by a third-party vendor, came under suspicion by jail staff after she was allegedly disoriented and confused.

Officials state several jail officers believed Tracy A. Davis, 53, was possibly impaired.

According to security footage, Davis had tampered with and removed Suboxone tablets from their normal location to an off-camera location, and officials say there were several errors on entries made by Davis into the Controlled Substances Log. Suboxone is a Schedule III narcotic drug.

Officials say Davis returned to work on August 15 and was interviewed by narcotics detectives where she admitted to taking the drug.

Davis was then placed under arrest for theft and possession charges. Her security clearance was also revoked.

“Our staff was alert, discovered this violation of trust, and quickly took action. Any breach of security is an opportunity to learn and improve our process. We will invest in technology and improved procedures to lessen the chances of such a violation recurring,” said Sheriff Noah Robinson.
