WEIRTON, W.Va. (WTRF) — It isn’t easy to feed thousands in one day just on volunteer work, but the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Weirton has done it for years.

Gyros, grape leaves and baklava went fast at their Greek Festival today, all made with traditional recipes.

Dozens of helpers worked in the parish kitchen, cooking and baking the more than 20 items on their menu for carryout or dining outside on a sunny clear day.

Reverend Matthew Moore says filling these bags takes nearly year-round preparation work.

“We start actually our preparations in September, trying to get certain certain things taken care of. And but our baking and our preparation of food really starts to ramp up at the beginning of the year. So really, we’ve been doing this for months, just for this day.”

The cultural experience offered more than just the food—
Visitors also saw a dance troop performance and a tour of the church’s stunning religious architecture.
