Alton Post 126 teams with tournament action over the weekend
-0- Alton Post 126 won the District 22 Senior Legion tournament title yesterday (SUN). Alton and Highland Post 439 split a pair of games at the legion tourney Sunday and now both teams advance to the 5th Division tournament later this week. Alton (15-17) will be hosting that 5th Division tourney at the Bethalto Sports Complex.

MARION - Metro-East Lutheran graduate Erik Broekemeier, who plays for Grand View State in Des Moines, Ia., hit a game-tying solo home run in the top of the seventh inning, but the Thrillville Thrillbillies scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning, and it was enough to hold off the Alton River Dragons in a 5-3 decision in a critical Prospect League South Division game played Saturday night at Mountain Dew Park in Marion.

Organizers gear up for cross-state Missouri River boat race
The 19th annual MR340 boat race will commence Tuesday, kicking off what is considered the world’s longest nonstop river race. The race runs 340 miles from Kansas City to St. Charles down the Missouri River. More than 400 individual and team boats are registered to compete in the event, according to the MR340 website.
Hazelwood summer camp teaches life lessons along with rowing on the Mon River
