Bill Moore’s Basement Hosts Largest Indoor Bowling Tourney: Champion Crowned
Bill Moore, a Niagara Wheatfield graduate, is elevating local bowling into a national spectacle. His home in Clifton, Virginia, features a two-lane bowling alley, named after his father, and serves as a host for the Bud Moore PBA50 Players Championship. This year’s event attracted 115 bowlers, including PBA star Liz Johnson, competing for a $20,000 prize, the second largest in the PBA50 series. The tournament initiated in 2021 after disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic, showcasing Moore's passion for the sport and camaraderie within the bowling community.

ROCKVILLE, Md., July 30, 2024 — The Montgomery County Council voted today to approve the Planning Board Draft of the Great Seneca Plan: Connecting Life and Science with revisions. The plan covers 4,330 acres located in the heart of the I-270 Corridor between the cities of Gaithersburg and Rockville and the town of Washington Grove. The Plan makes recommendations to strengthen the economic competitiveness of the Life Sciences Center, guide future developments, and transform public spaces and amenities in the area to provide valuable links and social spaces.

Maryland is first state to pass law against gift card draining
Maryland is the first state in the nation to pass a law aimed at thwarting an increasingly common scam known as gift card draining. The Gift Card Scams Prevention Act of 2024, recently signed by Maryland Gov. Wes Moore, mandates that gift cards sold in stores be encased in secure packaging so that thieves can't illegally obtain their numbers. Under the new law, merchants that sell gift cards online must register them with the Office of the Attorney General's Division of Consumer Protection, while sellers also must train employees on how to detect gift card fraud.
