Purdue will begin preparations for the 2024 campaign soon in training camp, gearing toward the season-opener on August 31 at home vs Indiana State. Let’s count down the top 30 Boilermakers as we march to the start of Ryan Walters ‘ second season in West Lafayette.

No. 11 Will Heldt, RE, Sophomore

Looking for potential? It’s dripping off Purdue rush end Will Heldt .

The Carmel, Ind., native showed it last season, when he was too good to keep off the field as a true freshman. The 6-6, 250-pounder played in all 12 games and made 12 stops. Heldt also flashed in the spring game, when he jetted 24 yards to paydirt with a pick-six.

Purdue’s defense needs Heldt to take the next step as it looks for an alpha pass rusher up front. Nic Scourton transferred to Texas A&M and Kydran Jenkins is now primarily an inside linebacker. Scourton recorded a Big Ten-high 10 sacks in 2023, while Jenkins netted 7.5 to rank third.

The best seemingly is yet to come for a player who looks like a pterodactyl off the edge. All eyes are on Heldt to step up.
