Tractor-Trailer Fire in Fairfield Takes Several Hours to Douse
FAIRFIELD, NJ -- A tractor-trailer fire Tuesday morning on Stewart Place is under investigation. At 9:39 a.m., the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to Stewart Place, and, upon arrival, the vehicle was already fully involved and had live wires and a transformer on top, causing additional hazards to the scene.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER Engine 2 tied into a hydrant and began fire suppression with multiple hand lines in addition to utilizing the deck gun. However, suppression efforts were limited until PSE&G arrived and secured the power to the electrical equipment covering the tractor trailer. The Fairfield Fire Department was assisted by Pine Brook Volunteer Fire Department, providing relief approximately two hours into the incident. All units were cleared four hours after the initial response to the blaze. The cause of the fire is unknown. The Fairfield Fire Prevention Bureau is conducting the investigation.
