IRVINGTON — Five neglected pit bulls were rescued from an abandoned home in the Essex County Township, according to a report by News 12. The Best Friend Dog and Animal Adoption in Cranford was first alerted to two dogs left outside the property on July 3. Realmuto Alta Pasticceria, a 5,000-square-foot all-day Italian cafe and pastry shop is in soft open mode starting today at 117 Seventh Ave South, the longtime home of the West Village Gourmet Garage supermarket. Owner Francesco Realmuto, who also owns Filaga Pizzeria and L’Arte del Gelato in Manhattan has tapped Giuseppe Zito to lead the bakery — a decorated pastry chef who has been a world champion for his panettone. On the sweet side expect bomboloni, cannoli, and more. There’s a full-service lunch and dinner component by Mauro Campanale, who also relocated to New York for the role, that includes several handmade pastas and other entries, as well as savory pastries like salted cod macarons and fava bean and pecorino tarts.
