The West Palm Beach Fishing Club took to the water to help cultivate the next generation of responsible young anglers.

It’s all part of the S.A.L.T.Y. Youth Fishing Program, supported by the Palm Beach County Fishing Foundation.

Each child receives a rod, tackle and gear as part of the program.

With the assistance of S.A.L.T.Y. volunteers, the kids learned to tie knots, rig sardines, and spool up their new spinner combo. Then, they tested their new skills and rigs by boarding Miss Blue Heron out of the Palm Beach Inlet.

Volunteers were thrilled to see the young anglers making progress, gaining confidence and landing some fish. Many learned how to properly fight a fish, thanks to large schools of mahi and yellowtails in the area.

One volunteer commented, “There’s something special about connecting kids to the water.”

This program is dedicated to the late West Palm Beach Fishing Club board member Don ‘Hap’ Wilson, a passionate angler who valued the mentorship required to teach fishing skills to the next generation.
