WESTERN SPRINGS, Ill. — It’s not unusual for high school kids to pick up a summer job during the summer months, but what Jack Fielding of Western Springs has taken on is truly remarkable.

The 17-year-old is the founder, CEO and lead counselor of WS Kids Camp , his own summer camp that now welcomes nearly 60 children.

“I decided I could probably make one of the best camps here so I decided to do that,” Fielding told WGN.

Mom Ilene Fielding was initially supportive when Jack pitched the idea, thinking it would include just a few kids. But then he built a website and printed flyers. He used his savings to buy Hula hoops, parachutes, a business license and liability insurance, always confident that his plan to “lead with fun” would work.

Sure enough, the small camp kept growing and now has dozens of young children registered.

Fielding plans to make WS Kids Camp even bigger and better after he graduates from Lyons Township High School next summer.
