WESTFIELD, NJ — A car was reported stolen, shoplifters took $556 worth of merchandise and there may have been an attempted home burglary last week, police said Tuesday.
A resident of Grandview Avenue reported a possible burglary in progress at about 4:17 a.m. on July 21, police said.
“Westfield Police officers arrived on scene and found a front window to have been forced open with evidence of actors gaining entry into the residence,” police said. “Surveillance footage captured two actors fleeing from the residence prior to police arrival.”
The suspects fled in a white sedan, police said. Nothing seems to have been taken, police said.
“The front window sustained damage to the locking mechanism,” police said.
On July 15, a resident told police that their Infinity Q50 sedan was stolen while parked overnight on Frazee Court.
An investigating detective later found broken glass where the vehicle had been parked, indicating that a window was likely broken in order to steal it, Police Chief Christopher Battiloro told TAPinto Westfield.
Also on July 15, an employee of a business on the 100 block of East Broad Street downtown reported a shoplifting incident.
“Three suspects entered the business and transferred multiple items into duffle bags,” police said. “The suspects then left the business without paying for the items, at which time they returned to their vehicle, a white-colored Jeep SUV, and left the area.”
The victim reported a loss of about $556 worth of merchandise, according to police.
