Like many of the rowers he has coached over the last 9 years, Wayland Weston Rowing Association’s Program Director Mike Baker is going to college. An email sent yesterday to friends of WWRA said that in late August Mike will be leaving WWRA to take on the role of Boatman at MIT Crew. In case you are not a rower, the Owl assures you that Boatman is a critical role on any crew team, overseeing boathouse operations for all of college’s rowing teams. I can still remember Dave, the Boatman at Wellesley Crew, without whom our team would have been a jumbled mass of boats, oars and trailers.

Tuesday night the Select Board discussed the town’s lease with the Reading Ice Arena Authority. With all the talk of potentially putting something on the Symonds Way land surrounding the arena, it was a feeling out session for the board. In the District 6 Legion Baseball 2024 regular season, Needham’s Post 14 went a perfect 16-0, giving them the top seed and a bye in the District Playoffs.
