Town might take fresh look at trash
“The entire situation is disgusting,” Alna Third Selectman Coreysha Stone said July 18. Stone said town funds go to Lincoln County Recycling, which she said serves county towns, and some Alna residents pay a contractor to take their trash; and yet the town pays Wiscasset about $121,000 a year to use Wiscasset Transfer Station – as much as three times what she said some towns that don’t use it pay for trash disposal.

News and notes from the Community Center
The last week of July is coming next week. I’m still amazed: where does the time go? In the spring we were reveling in rain, rain, rain. Now we are wondering when it’ll rain; all our plants are withering! Oh well, let’s just be thankful that we are not roasting like most of the country. OK, yea, I know it’s hot – hot for here, but really not unbearable, and be thankful we have the beautiful waterfront outside our door! There are blessings.

Sprucewold Column: The social, upcoming meetings and more
More heat and humidity, but at least it cools off at night! On Sunday afternoon, the Sprucewold Beach Club Member Social was held at the beach, with over 45 members in attendance. President Elisa Goldsmith welcomed attendees to the first social event we have had in a long time. It was great to meet new members and reconnect with old friends like Hobby Trefrey and see the next generation of granddaughters in the Thompson family and the Rittershauses/Haggetts. Elisa and vice president Carole Gonzales set the tables with beautiful flowers and refreshments, which were enjoyed by all. It was so nice to have a relaxing get together at the beach, late afternoon in the shade at low tide, nothing better on a hot day. Next stop – annual meeting at Our Lady Queen of Peace hall at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10.
Juniper and McKown Points: Annual meeting, Scavenger Hunt and more

Southport Column: Many upcoming events
One way to deal with all the debris from our winter storms is to have a ‘pick up’ party, which is what the Horn Cove residents did last Saturday. They gathered chain saws and other implements to cut up and carry away the unwanted presents the storm deposited on the beach. Then they lit a bonfire with all the wood, followed by a picnic supper. During dinner the next night with Perry Nies and his daughter, Betsy, who live.
