With clear skies above and no rain on the horizon, it was the picture-perfect day for some racing on Maine’s Coast on Saturday. Bowdoin College and Team Haiti swimmer third in his family to compete at Olympics
BRUNSWICK, Maine — Like many Maine college students, Alex Grand'Pierre is spending his summer far from campus. The Bowdoin College senior has an internship in New York City and during business hours he is getting used to the "real world." But after he clocks out for the day, Grand'Pierre's...
Skowhegan tops 36ers in American Legion Southern Zone championship
The Boothbay 36ers may be down, but they are not out of the Maine State American Legion tournament. Skowhegan defeated Boothbay, 4-3, on July 22 in the Maine State American Legion Senior Baseball tournament. Skowhegan earns the No. 1 south seed in this weekend’s state tournament in Bangor. Boothbay will be the No. 2 south seed. The 36ers will play at 4:30 p.m. on July 27 at Mansfield Stadium. Each of the four state tournament participants also play a Sunday game.
Equity of Access to Youth Sports
Athletics have been a major part of my life since I was 5 and joined Boothbay Harbor’s local tee-ball league, but a stark reality hasn’t occurred to me until just recently: the soaring cost of youth sports and the impact on our children and families. As a long time Boothbay athlete, I've witnessed firsthand the challenges families face in providing their children with access to athletic opportunities, and admittedly turned somewhat of a blind eye to the subject. The financial burden often excludes many children from participating, hindering not only their physical development but also their sense of belonging and social integration within our community.
Boothbay 36ers heading to American Legion tournament
The Boothbay 36ers are heading to the American Legion Baseball State Championship tournament. Two wins in the southern zone tournament action over Central Maine Hammond Lumber and Capital Area this weekend led to their finish as one of two southern zone teams qualifying for the state tournament. On July 22, Boothbay plays Skowhegan (8-6) at 5:30 p.m. in the southern zone championship game at Thomas College in Waterville. Both teams earned spots in next weekend’s state championship tournament.
