Midcoast Conservancy raises over $100,000 for conservation work
A bucolic setting at Inn Along the Way, cooperative weather, and over 250 festive guests all contributed to a fabulously successful fundraising event on behalf of Midcoast Conservancy on Thursday, July 18. The gala’s theme of “Coming Together” was a nod not only to the opportunity to gather with conservation-minded friends but also to Midcoast Conservancy’s work protecting and conserving the lands and waters which come together to form the the three watersheds it cares for, those of Damariscotta Lake, and the Sheepscot and Medomak rivers. In another thematic nod, newly-named Co-Executive Director of Conservation Sarah Giffen Carr was introduced to the guests and spoke about her passion for conservation work.
Healthy Peninsula receives $100k grant to support aging Mainers
BLUE HILL -- Healthy Peninsula, a Blue Hill nonprofit, has received a $100,000 grant to help local seniors. The grant, which will be dispersed over three years, is from Point32Health organization and will help to fund Healthy Peninsula's Bridging Neighbors program, which provides companionship and healthy meals to area people over the age of 60.

For decades, the chemical industry knew about the dangers of PFAS, chemical compounds linked to cancer, hormone disruption and other serious health problems including, new research suggests, neurological and mental health conditions. Known as “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down, they’ve been used in consumer items from non-stick pans and takeout food packaging to personal care products. Now PFAS are being found in farmland across the U.S. that used sludge from sewage and wastewater treatment plants as fertilizer.
