BARTON, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Three motorcyclists were injured after downed power lines fell on a roadway in Tioga County, New York, over the weekend.

According to the New York State Police Department, a portion of a NYSEG utility pole and live power lines fell onto Route 17C shortly before 1 p.m. in the Town of Barton on Sunday, Aug. 25. Several motorcyclists were approaching the area when the pole and wires fell.

Police say that a live wire struck a passenger who was on the back of one of the motorcycles, and the motorcycle overturned. Another motorcycle attempted to avoid the crash and went off the roadway.

The 62-year-old male driver and the 63-year-old female passenger of the first motorcycle that crashed, both of which are from Athens, were taken to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital via ambulance. The 70-year-old Sayre man who was driving the second motorcycle was also taken to Robert Packer. The 79-year-old female passenger, also from Sayre, was not transported.

The New York State Police Department responded to the scene.
