Children’s Harbor center unveils inclusive playground in north Alabama
ECLECTIC, Ala. (WIAT) — A new piece of equipment will provide fun for kids side-by-side at a resource center in north Alabama. The Children’s Harbor at the Harbor Lodge Family Camp unveiled a $750,000 playground, designed to provide activities for children of all abilities. The playground features ramps, musical and sensory elements as well as a merry-go-round that can support two wheelchairs.
Pets of the Week: July 1
It’s the beginning of the week, which means it’s time to introduce the Montgomery Humane Society’s Pets of the Week. This week we have Tom Nook and Tay Tay. Tom Nook is a 2-month-old domestic shorthair kitten. He is a very tiny kitty who loves being held, playing, and has a $10 adoption fee at the Montgomery Humane Society until July 3.

Urban farm, Eat South, where she prepares their raised beds for spring and summer plantings. One of Ms. Crawford’s favorite projects is Lilly’s Garden at Forest Avenue Elementary School, which she co-chairs with Ann Oldham. Due to neglect caused by school closure due to COVID-19, she single-handedly re-ordered the large school garden area, and she helped to replace the raised beds in Lilly’s Garden before students returned to school.
The Rundown: Celebrate the 4th of July
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - It’s almost the 4th of July, and we have some exciting ways you can spend the day with family & friends. It’s time for The Rundown. If you’re in Prattville, start your morning with the Independence Day parade starting at 9 a.m. in downtown, then head on over to Pratt Park for the Annual Lions Club BBQ lasting until 2 p.m. Cardboard boat races begins at 10:30AM. The Pratt Pool and Splash Pad will also be open for more family fun. Fireworks will be at the Homeplace Clock tower to end the night. Click here for more information.
Montgomery Parks and Recreation resumes Horseback Riding Program
The City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department is excited to announce the resumption of its horseback riding program in partnership with Rockin’ K, LLC, following a temporary shutdown. This program, which resumed in January 2024, has provided enriching experiences for participants from the Therapeutic Recreation Center’s Day Program and after-school programs, and has extended into the summer on Wednesdays.

Jaime is a talkative girl, and waiting for a home at HSEC
Jaimie is a six-month-old Terrier mix that came to us as one of a muti-dog intake. She is a small gal, only about 25 lbs so should be in the 30-35 lb range when fully grown. Great with other dogs, bouncy, talkative little gal – had a very high-pitched bark when she wants attention. Playful and wants to be a part of a loving family.
Meet Bolt, the PAHS Pet of the Week
Bolt as PAHS Pet of the Week for June 30. Hope you have a Happy 4th of July. Bolt is a 1-year-old male Lab mix who must be neutered before adoption. He came to PAHS as stray who was found by city animal control; no owner reclaimed him. Bolt has a beautiful light tan coat with white markings. This handsome guy weighs 46 pounds, so he is a medium sized young adult dog. He is a happy boy who is friendly and affectionate. Bolt would be good with children. If you have another dog, we recommend a meet and greet with your dog.
