Pinpoint Weather: Cool pattern, late-week showers

ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — Dry and unseasonably cool weather will continue across Southwest and Central Virginia through Friday. An approaching cold front could bring rain showers to the region over the weekend.

Isolated pockets of fog are possible for the Thursday morning commute. Temperatures will start in the cool 50s. Expect a mix of sun and clouds for the day with afternoon highs in the lower and middle 70s.

Friday will be variably cloudy and a few degrees warmer. Highs will be in the middle and upper 70s, although a few spots east of the Blue Ridge could hit the 80-degree mark. Stray light rain showers are possible, but much of the region will stay mostly dry.

A cold front will pass through Southwest and Central Virginia on Saturday. Rain showers will have the chance to pass through, but it won’t be a washout. There may be a few rumbles of thunder. Temperatures rise into the 70s to near 80 degrees under variably cloudy skies.

High pressure will build in behind the passing cold front, allowing for mostly dry weather conditions on Sunday and through the first half of next week. Expect increasing sunshine on Sunday with morning lows in the lower 50s and 40s. Afternoon temperatures will be in the 70s.

Mostly clear skies are anticipated for the week ahead. Monday through Wednesday, cool mornings and warm afternoons are in store. Morning lows will be in the upper 40s and 50s while afternoon temperatures will warm up into the 70s and lower 80s.
