UNINCORPORATED ANTIOCH, Ill. — A felon was arrested after trying to shoot a security guard outside of a bar in Unincorporated Antioch, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

37-year-old Ronald X. Owens was arrested and later charged Saturday with Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 felony), two counts of Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Class 4 felonies) and No FOID/No CCL (Class 4 felony).

A second man, 42-year-old Edwin Roddy, was arrested and charged with battery after the incident as well.

LCSO officials said deputies responded to a bar in the 27800 block of West Grass Lake Road on a report of a man with a gun around 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Law enforcement was able to obtain a detailed description of the two men from a 911 caller, who relayed the information to responding deputies that arrived on scene and detained Owens and Roddy.

After a preliminary investigation, deputies said they learned Owens and Roddy were removed from the bar by security earlier in the day for being disruptive.

After being removed, deputies said Owens and Roddy walked to a car in the parking lot and returned to confront security. Owens , who deputies said was now armed with a firearm, pointed the gun at security and pulled the trigger several times, but the firearm malfunctioned and did not fire.

The two then went back to a vehicle, and met with others they initially arrived with. Deputies believed Owens put the gun back in the car before the group left in the car.

Owens and Roddy returned to the bar again and attempted to get inside, but were stopped again by security. At this point, deputies said Roddy punched one of the security guards, after which, both were quickly found by LCSO deputies and arrested.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to detain on Owens. He was due in court Saturday morning.

Roddy was processed and released with a court date of Sept. 4, 2024, at 8:45 a.m. in the Lake County Courthouse.
