    CPD officer charged in alleged assault on fellow officer

    CHICAGO — Charges have been filed against a Chicago police officer accused of attacking another officer who he was reportedly in a relationship with.

    Chicago police said 30-year-old Francisco Galvan has been charged with one misdemeanor count of domestic battery and one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence. He was also given a citation for transporting or carrying an open alcohol container.

    According to the Chicago-Sun-Times , the charges stem from an alleged attack on another CPD officer who Galvan was in a relationship with.

    Authorities have not provided details on what led up to the alleged incident or updates on the condition of the victim.

    Police records indicate that Galvan was taken into custody just before 12:20 a.m. on Thursday near the CPD 7th District station.

    CPD officials said that Galvan was relieved of his police powers on the same day the incident allegedly unfolded.

    Because an investigation into the incident by Chicago’s Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is ongoing, authorities would not provide further details on the case.
