Even though the autopsy and toxicology reports are complete, we're still getting new information about what happened the night Riley Strain passed away. It's been three months now since the body of Riley Strain, the 22-year old University of Missouri student who went missing on March 8 in downtown Nashville, was found in the Cumberland River after a two-week search. Strain, who was in town for a fraternity formal, was last seen after being asked to leave Luke Bryan’s lower Broadway bar, Luke’s 32 Bridge, and then for some reason walked in the opposite direction of his hotel. Authorities said at the time there was no sign of foul play, and Luke’s bar
released a statement during the search clarifying that he was served only one alcoholic drink and two waters at their bar before being asked to leave. The death was ruled an accident, and Nashville Metro Police have since closed their investigation, but the family is still searching for answers amid what they say are still lingering questions that they have about their loved one’s death. According to the toxicology report conducted as part of the autopsy by the Davidson County Medical Examiner, Strain had a blood alcohol content of .228 at the time of his death, nearly 3 times the legal limit to drive of .08. And he was also found to have Delta-9 THC in his system, which is a hemp-derived version of THC that's legal and widely available in Tennessee. The report noted that there were no signs of Rohypnol, or roofies, in his system at the time of his death. While the toxicology report answers some of the remaining questions about Strain's tragic death, his family has also ordered a second autopsy and toxicology report from a private examiner, and still has concerns about some of Strain's missing clothing, as well as the fact that there was no water in his lungs at the time of his death. As part of their quest for answers, the family hired private investigator Steve Fischer to attempt to piece together the final hours of Strain's life, and he recently turned over a 281 page report, including a 49 minute video presentation containing important surveillance footage to the family. Part of that surveillance footage shows Strain's movements inside of Luke Bryan's bar, including him walking to the bar with a friend and ordering a water. A security guard then approaches the two, and Strain appears to have a verbal confrontation as his friend attempts to move him away from the bar. Strain is then removed from the bar by the security guard, and a message is sent to security at the bar with a picture of Riley:
"Verbally aggressive with staff, no entry." He must have been able to make his way back into the bar, because a few minutes later, another message is sent out: "I just escorted him out a second time from upper. Please no entry." That final message was sent at 9:39, and the last time Riley was spotted on camera less than 10 minutes later walking away from the bar and towards the river. The final known footage came around 9:55 as he walked under a bridge that crosses the river, and the final ping from his phone came at 10:15 near the river. We'll probably never know exactly what happened that night, or what made him walk towards the river, but hopefully the new information helps ease some of the concerns that the family had about his final hours. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scQ56l9jJZ0
